Haslams’ Client Reading University Secures Consent to Build 1,350 Dwellings at Shinfield

Another Haslams success story was Reading University’s achievement in securing planning permissions for 1,350 dwellings plus ancillary community facilities, open space including a country park by the River Loddon, infrastructure, the Eastern Relief Road and SANG land on its former farmland at Shinfield West.

Partner John Short said that “We have been working with the University for over 15 years in trying to achieve planning permission on this part of its land holding south of Reading and it is pleasing to have finally secured planning permission after all that time.”

Planning permissions were granted on appeal by the Secretary of State in respect of a significant portion of the land which had been allocated for residential development by Wokingham Borough Council within its `South of the M4` Strategic Development Location.

The University, advised by Haslams and its consultancy team which includes Barton Willmore and RPS, are also working hard at securing planning permission on two additional allocated sites in Shinfield namely The Manor (126 dwellings on 21 acres) and land lying to the north of Cutbush Lane (126 dwellings on 19 acres).

John Short commented that: “It is good to see a local and well respected organisation like the University securing these planning permissions. This will enable the University to further invest and build on its already established reputation as one of the country’s leading education and research bodies.”
