2.61 acre Wokingham site sold to Free School

Acting on behalf of Holme Grange School and Trustees, Haslams is delighted to announce it has sold the former White House Preparatory School in Wokingham to the CfBT Schools Trust. The buyer will be renovating and renewing the existing buildings, some 16,000 square feet in total, and will use the 2.61 acre site as a Free School funded by the Government’s Free School initiative and its Education Funding Agency. The new Free School will be called the Evendons Primary School and plans to open in September 2014.

Haslams’ surveyor Will Morris commented: “Both our client and ourselves were delighted with the response to the marketing of this property. We secured over 20 bids, mostly from residential developers, but it was pleasing to secure a bid from the Free School group that was at a level the Trustees could accept and thereby enable this site to continue to be used for much needed local education purposes.”

Will added: “While marketing, the property was designated by the Local Planning Authority as an Asset of Community Value under the Localism Act 2011 this provided the client and its professional advisers with a series of new issues to address before we could affect the sale, but ultimately we were pleased to be able to conclude a sale that was satisfactory to all concerned”.

Reading based Clifton Ingram acted as the vendor’s solicitors.
